April 15, 2009 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end accent furniture and accessories, announced today that it is building on its recent design awards with expansion to existing collections, as well as the addition of two new lines. Spring 2009 Introductions:
The new pieces being unveiled at High Point include additions to recently introduced collections as well as two new lines. All of the pieces are made of rattan pole and weave, and come in Selamat Designs’ two standard finishes: Nutmeg - a light warm creamy beige finish, and Clove – a dark and rich fruitwood finish. Both finishes are hand applied, with transparent stains carefully wiped and clear coats of satin lacquer polished to show the natural beauty of the rattan grain below with brilliant clarity. The collection draws from diverse international inspiration; some of the highlights include:
- The Regeant Collection – a large wall mirror and an elegant étagère for presentation of books and display items has been added to the English garden-inspired Regeant collection.

September 22, 2008 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced today that it has hired Steve Fahey as Vice President, National Sales Director. Fahey is charged with building out the company’s sales force in support of the new and expanded product lines being released this year.
“Our new product development and design team is creating some incredible new pieces at a rapid pace – so we needed a talented Sales Director to help spread the word about our re-invigorated brand to the industry,” said Thatcher Davis, President of Selamat Designs. “Steve Fahey is an incredible sales resource – results-oriented, focused and driven. We are fortunate to have him at Selamat Designs, and the timing is just right for expanding our sales strategy.”
Fahey has an extensive background in both sales and management. During his tenure at OneCoast, Fahey managed more than 45 different manufacturers and a team of more than two dozen sales reps, including key accounts. In his few short weeks at Selamat Designs, Fahey has significantly expanded and reorganized Selamat Designs’ sales force – creating Hospitality, Key Accounts, General Design and Retail divisions. He has also rebuilt the company’s sales tools – including digital systems to support increased efficiency – and expanded into territories that were not previously covered.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me to leverage my experience to really build a sales force from the ground up,” said Steve Fahey. “And the best part is, our team is truly excited about the beautiful, innovative, high-quality designs we are selling – which makes all the difference. Selamat Designs Bolsters In-House Design Team with Experienced Key Hires
July 23, 2008 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced today that it has made two key strategic hires to build out its in-house design and manufacturing resources. With a continued commitment to growth on the heels of its 20th anniversary this year, Selamat Designs is putting a major emphasis on design with plans to release more than 100 new products by year end.
To lead this effort, Randall Shepard has been brought in as Executive Vice President of Product Development. With nearly 30 years of experience in the furniture industry, Shepard brings an unprecedented level of expertise and an invaluable perspective to Selamat Designs.
Shepard built his career at McGuire, where he spent 25 years in product development and helped revitalize the brand – his work ranged from hands-on design of furniture collections to close collaboration with Southeast Asian manufacturers to strategic planning for the company. In addition, Shepard has worked with interior designers to translate their aesthetic into merchandisable furniture collections, such as the Barbara Barry Collection for McGuire. After McGuire, Shepard served as Vice President of Product Development for Sutherland, where he broadened the company’s product range and introduced new offshore manufacturing sources. He also managed the very successful launch of Sutherland’s line with internationally acclaimed designer Philippe Starck. Shepard holds several design patents and one utility patent for his previous work.
“This role represents an ideal opportunity for me,” said Randy Shepard. “Selamat is an established well-run company, that has the potential to become a major player in the furniture industry….I’m here to realize that potential.”
Also on board to help achieve this vision is Anna Watkins Porter, who serves as Lead Designer for Selamat Designs. Porter comes to Selamat from Palecek where, as a designer for six years, she helped set the creative direction and tone through product development and strategic merchandising of furniture and accessories. Porter sourced and developed suppliers for the company overseas. She also designed and managed the company’s most successful licensing launch with National Geographic Home. Several of Porter’s projects at Palecek garnered ARTS and Pinnacle awards. Prior to Palecek, Porter expanded sourcing and developed furniture for key accounts at Four Hands, and also spent time designing furniture for Smith & Hawken. Porter will be leading the design efforts for several key contract manufacturing projects and licensing ventures as well as new furniture and accessories offerings for Selamat.
“I am excited to work with Randy to really drive the look and feel of Selamat’s upcoming products, leveraging the legacy of craftsmanship Selamat has built over the last 20 years,” said Porter, lead designer for Selamat Designs. “My passion for natural materials and my own design aesthetic are a great fit with the company.”
“We are extremely fortunate to have Randy Shepard and Anna Watkins Porter on board,” said Thatcher Davis, President of Selamat Designs. “In addition to developing unique and beautiful new designs for Selamat, their depth and range of experience will help us build out our manufacturing capabilities as well as our sales and marketing efforts. We are confident that this team will take Selamat Designs to the next level.”

February 20, 2008 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced today that it has completely redesigned its website, www.selamatdesigns.com, to include all of its furniture and accessories online and to offer the option to purchase direct from Selamat. Presenting the complete product line online provides designers and retailers with a sales tool to show their customers additional options to meet a broader range of tastes. In addition, a direct e-commerce channel opens the market to consumers who have not previously had access to Selamat’s product line. Online product pricing reflects average retail prices, so that designers and retailers are still able to provide competitive pricing options to their clients. In addition, the “To the Trade” section of the website is accessible via log-in to designers and retailers seeking wholesale pricing options.

Selamat Designs Reports Record Growth in Furniture Sales in 2007
- Company sees 25% Sales Increase over 2006 -
January 28, 2008 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced today that sales for 2007 increased 25% over 2006, previously the company’s record sales year. Though 2007 was perceived to be a down year for the furniture industry, Selamat Designs sales increases were due to strong contract sales to leading four- and five-star hotels worldwide, increased private label manufacturing for large retailers and mail order companies, and greater awareness and acceptance from domestic retailers and interior designers.
“We attribute this dramatic sales increase to Selamat’s unique, high-quality furniture designs,” said Thatcher Davis, President of Selamat Designs. “Our product stands out from the ‘cookie- cutter’ designs that come out of big box stores, and customers apparently like what they see from us.”
Selamat’s furniture and accessories designs appeal to a broad range of tastes, from the traditional to the contemporary. In addition to its flagship accessories and occasional furniture business, Selamat has expanded its offerings in recent months to include a new premium line of fabrics for its products, as well as a new line of outdoor furnishings -- both of which are being well-received in the marketplace.
“We’re extremely pleased with the acceptance of our product in 2007, and we look forward to continuing to introduce appealing, functional, high-quality pieces in the coming year,” added Davis.
Selamat Designs furniture is on display in a newly designed showroom at this week’s Las Vegas Market (World Market Center, Building Two, Suite B150). In addition, the company has showrooms in Atlanta, GA (America’s Mart, Building 1), High Point, NC (International Home Furnishing Center, Interhall ) and Seattle, WA (Pacific Market Center, Skavaril & Associates).

Selamat Designs Takes It Outside With New
Outdoor Furniture Lines Featuring Plantation-Grown Teak
December 12, 2007 – San Francisco, CA – Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced today that it is offering its first line of outdoor furnishings to the trade. Selamat has produced outdoor furniture as a contract manufacturer under private label for the past ten years, and is now leveraging that experience to produce its own line. True to Selamat’s spirit of appealing to both traditional and modern tastes, the outdoor options range from the contemporary Stratus line and Cuban chair to the more traditional Thomas Jefferson-designed Campeachy Chair.
“Our new outdoor designs address what we have seen as a very strong demand for high-quality, unique outdoor furnishings,” said Thatcher Davis, President of Selamat Designs. “We are eager to see our customers’ interpretations and uses of the pieces – they are attractive and versatile enough to be used indoors as well as out.”
The Stratus line is the flagship series of outdoor furnishings for Selamat. Designed by an Australian designer, the slatted teak and stainless steel pieces have a museum-quality elegance, yet provide comfortable and durable seating for the elements. The Stratus line features a chair, bench, end table and coffee table.
Other outdoor occasional pieces include the Cuban and Campeachy chairs. Selamat’s signature Cuban chair and ottoman has been completely reworked in teak, featuring an outdoor, mold resistant foam cushion covered in Sunbrella fabric for years of outdoor use. Selamat also offers a COM (“Customers Own Material”) service for this piece, for customers seeking a more personalized look. The Campeachy chair is a Thomas Jefferson design, licensed from the Monticello Foundation. The chair is actually an outdoor version inspired by President Jefferson’s Campeachy “Hammock” Chair that he designed to alleviate the chronic back pain from which he suffered.
All of the outdoor pieces offered by Selamat are made with plantation-grown teak, from government managed farms in Indonesia. Selamat makes every effort to utilize as much of the wood as possible – using offcuts for smaller accessories. The outdoor furnishings are quality-tested and suitable for both commercial and residential purposes.
Selamat Designs’ outdoor furnishings are featured in its current catalog as well as online. Customers can contact Selamat Designs customer service at 800.492.1776 or go to www.selamatdesigns.com for more information. Selamat Designs Announces Clay Rammage Design Challenge Winner
February 12, 2007 – Cincinnati, OH – The 1st Annual "Create a Classic" Design Challenge is complete and Selamat Designs President, Thatcher Davis is pleased to announce Clay Rammage of Delano, MN and his Urban Tribal Chair the winner. Selamat Designs made the call out and designers from around the country took the challenge. Hundreds of talented designers – from students to design professionals – sent in their best ideas to create the "next great chair" with the winning entry becoming part of the company's spring 2007 collection.
In the last leg of this challenge, the top three designs were on display during the Las Vegas Market where buyers in attendance had the opportunity to vote for the chair they would most like to see added to the company's collection. "The voting was extremely tight throughout the week, but in the end Clay's chair claimed victory and we couldn't be more pleased," said Davis. He added, "Many of the buyers in attendance were already asking when they could place orders and we anticipate a great demand." The Urban Tribal chair will be available to order during the March 2007 High Point Market.
Rammage of Delano, MN is an accountant for an insurance company by trade whose passion for furniture and design has led him to dabble in a part time upholstery business in his community. He primarily refurbishes and re-assembles but has been sketching his own designs for years. Upon winning Rammage said, "I can't believe this has just happened to me, it's unbelievable. I have never seen any of my designs actually made to scale so this is very emotional to me." Rammage found inspiration for his design from the 1930's Art Deco era utilizing mahogany and ultra suede in his urban Tribal chair complete with bowed arms and jointed feet.
With the success of this first year of the Design Challenge, Selamat Designs will be launching the 2nd Annual "Create a Classic" Design Challenge during the March 2007 High Point Market with a whole new set of challenges for the designers. Entry information will be available during the show and also on the company's web site.

The Selamat Design Group of Dillon Davis, Inc.
Selamat Designs was founded in 1988 by San Francisco designer, Vera Brown. While touring a furniture factory in Indonesia, Mrs. Brown discovered that the production of large pieces of furniture left behind an amazing quantity of scrap wood. Having no use for this wood, the factory would burn it in their kilns. Jim Tenbrink, a supervisor at the factory, challenged the designer to come up with more productive uses for these off-cuts. The result was a stylish group of office and home accessories that launched Selamat Designs into national prominence.
Over the years, customers impressed with the quality of the smaller accessories, began demanding larger and larger pieces. As a result, Selamat Designs was able to expand into the production of occasional furniture, such as tables, dining sets, chairs and deep-seating. Selamat also began integrating the use of new exotic materials such as rattan, bamboo, leather, marble, onyx and a selection of other tropical hardwoods into their product line.
Upon her retirement in June 2004, Mrs. Brown and Mr. Tenbrink sold Selamat Designs to Thatcher and Shannon Davis, an entrepreneurial couple who saw the potential to take the company to the next level of success. While continuing to work with Mr. Tenbrink, the Davis’ have leveraged their backgrounds in finance and operations to build on Selamat Designs’ quality and design strengths.
Selamat Designs will continue to offer an array of traditional British West Indies designs while complementing their product mix with groups of more contemporary furnishings. The new lines will make use of the same traditional materials and quality finishing for which Selamat Designs is known.
The Selamat Design Group of Dillon Davis, Inc. currently distributes to furniture, home accent specialty and gift stores. Future plans include further expansion into the private label and contract markets.
The company ships from their warehouse and office facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio. Selamat Designs is shown in High Point, Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Chicago and a growing number of other regional shows. For more information, please visit www.selamatdesigns.com or call 800-492-1776.
